FHAO Race and Membership – Why Differences Matter

A class divided

Today in our afternoon seminar, participants explained how beliefs about differences shape they way we see ourselves and others by watching and discussing the film "A Class Divided" (from "Eye of the Storm"). Participants also attempted to define "American" and how differences have determined who is considered "American" by examining the metaphors of the American "melting pot" versus the "mosaic," Japanese internment during World War II and the case of Korematsu v. United States, citizenship and undocumented immigrants today.
